New Polyurethane Dispersions for Foam-to-Foam Bonding Applications
TUESDAY APRIL 12, 2022 // 12:00PM ET
Waterborne spray applied adhesives are the most utilized technology in the foam-to-foam bonding industry. Polychloroprene rubber dispersions (CRD) are the dominant raw materials used in these applications due to their fast break properties leading to instant tack of the formulated adhesive. As consumers become more educated on the materials used in their everyday life, in this case foam bonding, there has been a growing importance on Ecolabels for these products. While adhesives formulated with CRD raw materials meet all of the physical performance demands there is a gap in terms of their ecolabeling and end of life uses. Thus Covestro developed a new line of polyurethane dispersions (Dispercoll® U64 & Dispercoll® U84) that can be formulated into foam- to-foam bonding adhesives. These new products will result in more favorable ecolabeling and a mono-material concept that could improve the end of life uses for the overall foam bonding industry without compromising performance.
